Role
intro
UIdeas Lab is a multidisciplinary research and development team focused on advancing Ubiquitous Interactive Design for Education.
We explore and build innovative assistive and social technologies that enhance learning, accessibility, and inclusive human-technology interaction.
This past summer, I worked on the rebranding of our media kit- and new site launch, working in figma for prototyping, and designing our new asset kit in Illustrator.

why redesign?
The original UIdeas Lab site was built on a default Google Sites template. It is functional, but visually generic.
The illustration style felt dated, and nothing about it communicated the lab's actual identity: a forward-thinking, multidisciplinary research team working at the intersection of technology, accessibility, and education.
The rebrand was about closing that gap and doing it with intention. Dr. Cibrian's Mexican roots were a direct source of inspiration for the new visual direction.
The illustrated style draws from the warmth and richness of Mexican folk art and papel picado, reinterpreted through a modern, clean lens.
The goal was a brand that felt genuinely inclusive and international , one that reflected where the lab comes from, not just what it studies. Research labs, especially ones focused on equity and accessibility, shouldn't look like every other institution. The new visual system — the custom illustration, the teal and pink palette, the layered warmth — was designed to signal that this team brings a distinct perspective to the work, and that everyone is welcome in it.
